    Default Spirit Wolf

For those who know, this is Spirit, a captive full blooded Arctic wolf rescued from a very abusive owner. She lost her mate, Denali, of 14 years this past winter at the ripe old age very few captive wolves live to be. She was very sad at first but is now very happy and vibrant. She is happy when visitors come to see her. I was glad to spend a few minutes this afternoon with her. I gave her some treats and wrestled with her. She loved every minute of it, and so did I.

I chose to go full frame and make a 12x18 print and shot it in monochrome. Here are the specs:

Canon EOS-1D Mark II N, Shooting Date/Time 11/1/2009 12:13:27, Shutter Speed 1/60Sec. Hand held, Av(Aperture Value) F6.3, Centerweighted average metering, Exposure Compensation 0, ISO 400, Lens: EF300mm f/2.8L IS USM, RAW. Some minor shadows and highlights, curves and contrast.

Stunning portrait Grady and I love the black and white. A very touching story but fortunately with a happy ending. I know they mate for life and the loss of a mate is a very sad time for them. How lovely that you were able to spend some time with her and I know it was a warm and meaningful experience for you both. Many thanks for sharing Grady. Such a gorgeous animal !!!!!!!

Sad story, fortunately with a good ending. I hope she can forgive the abuse.
Excellent portrait, well done in the conversion. She does look happy.

Spirit is fortunate to have you as a friend, Grady.
    What a magnifient wolf!
Shooting in monochrome gives this a special aura, and you handled it masterfully.

    Grady,
This is a lovely image. The monochrome has captured the mood nicely.
