    Default Bald Eagle-in Crimson

Sometimes the light does shine in Seattle. From a kayak. The bg and trees are Dawn Redwoods.
Whites are still a bit hot in places for me--but I cannot get them to look any better. :(

***NOTE--after having a local birder contact the University of Washington Botanic Gardens where this image was taken they have confirmed that the trees are Bald Cypress--not Dawn Redwoods--although they are similar.

What a beautiful Bald Eagle image, Bonnie! The head and eyes look perfectly sharp but I wonder if the body feathers could use just a touch more sharpening? Also, the eagle feels pretty centered in the frame...I'd take a slice off the right side (since he's looking to the left.) The reds in the BG really take this up a notch - nice work!

Great captured, well presented, with killer colors. Angle does not seem to steep for a kayak. I though of cropping the right too, but the way the weeds fall o the right and frame the Eagle, I'd probably keep your crop.

This photograph is a gem, Bonnie!
Congratulations on a most engaging image.
The whites don't bother me at all, as I often find when photographing eagles that, no matter what I do in post, whites will insist on being white! :D
I echo Julie's critique on sharpness and crop.
Overall, you've done a masterful job!

Wow. What color -- it really sets off the bird. Great capture. I'm somewhere between Julie and Fabs on the crop -- were it mine I might take a tiny bit off the right, but not enough to interfere with the hanging weeds. Would shift the bird just slightly in the frame. Well done.

I like the eye contact, and the whites seem fine to me. If anything, I would just take a slight bit off the right. The colour of the BG really takes this to another level. Well captured Bonnie.

Thanks everyone--here is a repost with a different crop and slight sharpening of the feathers.
It was great fun--there were four of us out for the paddle and we nearly fell out of our boats!

    Hi Bonnie.
Your repost looks better to me. Great looking eagle, love the red BG and environment around it. Gorgeous light.

A beautiful shot Bonnie! Well exposed with fabulous colours. The whites look white and very well exposed. Either crop works for me, but I think I prefer the original post.

    Very well done!

    Cheers!

A different repost. Obviously I liked the original COMP. Reduced the SAT a bit with a 15% Average Blur Color Balance, sharpened the head, and took some yellow from the whites.

Wow--Artie--that made this image just pop off the page. Thank you!!!
I am finding the 7D colors to be very saturated--I have reduced other images as well.
I'll practice and see if I can come up with the same effect.
    Thanks again!

congrats Bonnie....a beautiful image. The fall color is quite an enhancement and may
be throwing some cross coloration. I did my normal white balance in Power Retouch
and came up with what I think is a good rendition keeping your full saturation....subjective of course.
And a little extra selective sharpening

what a gorgeous image Bonnie!! WOW!
the eagle really pops against the BG. to me the head wasn't sharp enough, and Artie's repost adressed that (I also like the original comp).

Dave's repost has made the eagle's colour look more natural and the reds deeper which makes it pop even more.

    Print and hang!

You are welcome. Dave's version looks great also. As I say often, if you gave someone the same image to optimize seven days in a row and they were sitting at the same computer in the same light they would likely come up with seven distinguishable versions...

Yes, Dave's looks great too in just a little different way.
Processing is such a learning curve. Good reminder to me on what really can be done with these images.
Thanks again--I appreciate everyone's comments and critiques!:)
