    Default American Bittern

    Model = Canon EOS-1D Mark II N
    Exposure Time = 1/1250"
    F Number = F8
    Exposure Program = Manual
    ISO Speed Ratings = 400
    Metering Mode = Spot
    Flash = Flash did not fire, compulsory flash mode
    Focal Length = 400mm
    Color Space = sRGB
    Exposure Mode = Manual exposure
    Handheld using bushhawk
    90% of frame

    This image was made last year at Viera Wetlands in Florida. We spotted this Bittern. I got a few environmental photographs of him and then he launched and circled right around us to go to another cell. I captured 18 photos of flight in the sequence. I think this was the best one.

    I like the way this one shows off the patterns on the back & wings. Those talons are wicked looking and the water drops are a nice bonus.

    Great details, topside view and BG. If the bittern would have flown toward you that would have put it over the top. But I'm sure I don't need to tell you that. :)

    Love the details in the bird plumage. The water drops are very nice. As you know I wish the angle of flight was different....
