    Default Jackal down the Dune

Hey everyone. I've still got many nice oryx shots to post but thought I would take a break ;).

This black-backed jackal came down from the crest of a red sand dune in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park. I liked the motion, angle and flying sand captured.

Your feedback much appreciated, as always.

This is about 70% of full frame. Some grasses in front patched out.

    Techs:
    Canon 40D with 100-400mm L IS USM @ 400mm
    f7.1 @ 1/1600 SS @ ISO-400

I can almost see/feel an oryx walking down that slope...I love the angle he's coming down in the frame. Unique enviro shot for the BBJ.

    Hi Morkel,

I like the angle on this one and the focussed expression on the Jackal. I was wondering if you had another image a few frames later then the interesting sand marks made by Jackal would be more prominent.

    Well seen and recorded.

Comp works well mate, and love the raised paw together with the disturbed sand. Good detail you captured on the jackal too. Well done mate.

Unique composition as mentioned - well done there.

I would remove the color cast of the jackal as he blends too much with the sand.

    thanks for your input everyone...

Robert - to me the scene accurately represents the colour of the Kalahari dunes and the jackal so will leave it as is :)

Great angle, color & pose Morkel, well done. Looks like you got pretty close to the often shy BB Jackal.

Beautiful shot that really conjures up the Kgalagadi. Cannot wait to get back there 2010 for my first digital foray to that wonderful park. Well done Morkel !

Very unique image. Like how you included a lot of the dune and I also like the sand coming off the legs.
