Charles, I love the eye contact and the nice lighting. I also love the killer eye. Fantastic details in the head. I have a question-Did you blur the dark feathers of the body just a bit in PP to keep the attention on the head? I ask only out of curiosity. It is a most appealing image.

    Denise,

Thanks for the kind words. I did not blur the blk feather area. DOF is pretty shallow when shooting this close at 840mm focal length. Moreover, the very subtle lighting direction (almost flat) on the blk feathers vs the side-lighting on the face helps lead the viewers eye to that with detail. "Light illuminates, Shadow defines"

    Best,

    Chas

Very pretty image. Love the light on the puffins face. At this size, a bit hard to tell, but I believe I see a reflection of a person in the eye. Maybe you?? I'd remove it if it were my image.

Yes, very dramatic light in this one. Love the personality this birds have. I believe I can see your lens in the eye.

Chas, of all the puffins I've been blessed to see and photograph, this is killer and rocks me. Love the dim last light and the intimate over the shoulder look. Catch light direct eye contact. A work of art Chas. Thanks so much for your uplifting and insightful images.
