I was happy when this Brant took its bath in front of me, while facing me for a while. This frame had the best pose/water action combo of the lot. It did start flapping wildly in the water at one point, but by then it was facing away therefore no photos of that action.
Canon 40D + 100-400L @375mm, aperture priority. evaluative metering, 1/400s., f/7.1, ISO 400, +1.3 EC, natural light, handheld, about 80% full-frame. Mallard butt removed from URC:).
Love the water drops and water flowing off the body....nice job to have captured that at 1/400.
I would have liked to have seen a bit more of a side view. Brant heads are tough to show off from a front view as there just isn't a whole lot of differentiation between the head / neck / etc., without side lighting from my experience.
I'd smooth out the URC when Mr. Mallards but was removed as it caught my eye before I read your notes.
Crop seems a little awkard although I'm not sure what I would have done differently with the exception of getting the bird up a bit higher in the frame.
