Very cool Jan. I would have place him further down towards the corner for a stronger compo.
Nice to think out of the box!

Right now it is a traditional Rule of Thirds placement and works nicely like that. I played around with it as Fabs suggested and still came back to this crop. Nice work. I think the flat look says to me foggy day. I like the lack of detail in the water.

Another rule is when subject is small in the frame it should be placed close to a corner. Rule of thirds would apply to a bigger subject imo.

What about the rule of fourths? ;) Nice image with an interesting mood, Jan. I like it. I think placing him a little further down might accent the isolation.

Pretty difficult light but you made the most of it. It would be interesting to see different compositions.

Just when I think I like the original (which I DO!) and thinking to myself as I'm reading... "I wouldn't change a thing"... I scroll down to Fabs edit... To my eye they're both strong compositionaly, but I'm leaning towards the version Fabs posted. The think more negative space in front of and above adds to the impact. Well done both of you!

Whatever you do it's a really interesting image!

Sometimes when all you've got are lemons.... Ya just make some lemonade!

    SWEET!

I can't decide which version I like better but either way works for me. I think that is indicative of a good image. I really like the feel of isolation and sereneness you captured here. Sometimes I think photographers get hung up on following too many "rules" when I like to think of them merely as suggestions.
