Lovely habitat shot Daniel with great splash work.
However.looks like you've missed focus on the head and hit mid right wing.

    Daniel / Mark,
Is that missed focus on the head or image motion? Excellent timing but blurred head detracts from the shot. I love the comp, especially the shaft of yellow entering from ULC. Reflection adds significantly to foreground

Hi Daniel! I'm glad to see the birds have arrived there. Nice composition, splash and reflection. Although I think 1/500sec was too slow, and probably resulted in the head blur, the exposure is right on. Since the noise at ISO800 is so well managed, I would also venture that the image was originally overexposed and then corrected, which is a good thing! Good job. regards~Bill

Marc and Dean. The problem with splashing water is the focus locks onto the water. Since the droplets are so sharp that's probably where the focus was.
William. These herons can really move fast when going after a fish. I think it's even faster than a BIF. The exposure was right on and no compensation was done to the image. ISO 800 is about the maxium I like. So shooting wide open at iso 800 was about all I could do so I have to accept the 1/500 shutter.
