Default Elk with 600/4 hand held

We saw this small herd and I took no time mounting the lens on a tripod, and tried to see how it worked h/h.
They were up in a hill and we had very light snow falling, very little light. No noise reduction used. Full frame. I decided to keep the bluish cast in the picture. That's how it looked at the time.

    Model: Canon EOS-1D Mark III
    Lens (mm): 600
    ISO: 1600
    Aperture: 5.6
    Shutter: 1/640

    Fabs,

The animal pops out from the BG, lovely rack on that Elk. I like the slight feeling of motion and the tilt that is present, gives an idea of the slope in the landscape. I better start building more muscle, if you are hand-holding that beast of a lens !! :-). Nah, I will just use a beanbag.

Sweet Fabs. Now that's a rack. The coat is perfect, something not always seen and really keeps the image together without distractions. You must have a strong right punch to the jaw. :)

The snow really simplifies the BG and makes him stand out.

Superb male Fabs an dwell done with the HH bit. Not easily done. Like that you kept the color too. Looks cold. WD!

Great job on hand holding the 600!! The detail is good and the blue cast is a refreshing taste of reality. I know you didn't have much choice, but it would have been nice if there were a slight head turn of if the entire elk were turned toward you a bit.

Beautifully captured Fab and the little dusting of snow on his back really adds a wonderful touch to this lovely capture. Love the BG and his gorgeous antlers.

Hmmm... I hand held a 600mm a little while ago, no easy feat, so well done on achieving this shot Fabs. Well exposed throughout.

Really like the frost covered surroundings. Would like to see just a little more detail in the head.
