The bison are always a thrill to see as they conjure up many feelings of the old west. This big bull was on his own which many of them chose to do and seem to be quite content .
Judy, nice side profile and catchlight. I like the BG lighting. Judy, I think this image can be improved just a little with the following changes. The bright grass was taking my attention away from the animal.
In ACR:
1. Recover highlights (70)
2. Increase Clarity (50) to add some contrast
3. Raise the color temp (8)
4. Cropped and tilted the image slightly
Then in CS3, I sharpened (90, 0.8) the animal and slightly blurred the BG to make him pop out.
Hope you like it.

Bison are magnificent animals that I'd love to photograph one day. And honestly I'd have to say that this photograph (although photographed in beautiful soft warm light) does not reflect the feeling of the old west you were referring to. Often with these photograph the environment makes the photograph and I think this would have been better if you would have gone for a wider perspective. Just my humble opinion. Also I think the approach you chose would have been slightly better executed when you would have taken this from a lower angle. That way the "horizon" would not have gone straight through the head and it would have given more separation with the bg. Next time, take a close look to trees in the bg, a large step to the right would have avoided you to have that large trunk in the bg.
A little quick and easy clone work on that tree makes this the classic pose. What a nice specimen and head angle. I like it the way you got it. Not overly sharpened and too dark. Nice shot.
Jasper I agree with your comments but unfortunately this was taken from the car and there was not much of an opportunity to move back or move to the side. It was one of those grab situations. Many thanks for taking the time to comment !!!!
Like this Judy. Like the composition and placement. good specimen in good condition too. Like what Kiran did with his repost too, as an alternative, not preference. If you wanted to, the bright tree trunk responds to quick mask removal fairly easily. Well done and thanks for sharing.
