While practising BIF on gulls, there was a lull in the action and I backed off the zoom to photograph the Princeton crew going by on the lake. This guy suddenly appeared out of nowhere and my reactions were too slow to zoom in closer, so this is about a 50% crop. Light would have been nicer if he had flown past me on the right instead of coming right over my head. Not sure about the wing position, and probably under-exposed. C&C appreciated.
I'm no avian expert, or photography expert for that matter, so I won't comment on the technical aspects of this picture, but I do get a real sense of the power of eagles from this shot. Thanks.
Great pose Bill. I think you are getting a lot of noise under the wing. Not sure if you can recover the detail or not in PP. Beyond my skills. I like the wing position and the head on pose a lot.
Hi Bill - A difficult one in anything but soft light or flying over sand or the likes to reflect some light back up under those wings. Flash might have helped depends on how far away even with a better beamer and HSS mode dont know that it would have helped much.
Like the pose - quite noisy under the wings - any S/H applied??
Hi Bill,
I like the capture and the spread wing position, also a direct in your face eye contact...the techs. have been covered...loking forward to your next one...
Hi Bill As lance mentioned a good exposure for the under wings would have blown the head, tough situation.
Wing position wise we do like fully extended wings which you can get with the motor drive, one of the instances it comes in handy. PS you did well and best to go with the flow, trying to get detail under the wings would have made the area muddy looking. Exposure wise you usually will need at least one over for detail !!!
Nice reaction, a big bonus considering when you were out shooting gulls. Love the eye contact and the incoming angle. I do see a bit of halo around the bird, probably from PP when trying to lighten the bird.
Thank you all. I did do some S/H, but didn't want to overdo it. Jackie: if improvements here are beyond your PP skills, then it is certainly a lost cause for me. A pair of "BEagles" live nearby and periodically fly over our lake, so maybe I'll be ready next time.
