Sun was up without a cloud in the sky when this pheasant appeared for a short time this morning... did some shadow/highlight adjustments in PS to hopefully make this work a little better... C&C appreciated.

    John:

I grew up in Iowa, lots of ring necks around, a sound of my youth.

The light was def. on the harsh side and coming from well off to your left. You might be able to dodge the breast a bit more to get some detail, assuming the noise doesn't come up too badly. (I don't know how tolerant the 7D will be in that regard)

That long tail is always a bit of a challenge for composition. I think its placement in the frame is nice, but might add a bit more space to the right if you have it.

    Cheers

    Randy

I love the position of the bird with tail cocked. Yes a little increase in exposure in the breast would be nice.
After 2 wks in the midwest I did not come close to obtaining anything like this.

Thanks for the handful of replies everyone... I was just about to put away the gear for the morning when this pheasant appeared... the image is representative of the light at mid-morning, and agree even more shadow/highlight work could be done. :)

Charles... this was out at Farmington Bay WMA here in northern Utah.
