A fun image...this bird looks quite content! I'm thinking a tiny bit of fill-flash could have liven the great colours even more - and help fill in those subtle shadows (e.g. back of head, lower mandible). I love the sky colour and especially the hint of clouds. The details are fantastic.

Beautiful bird, colors, head angle, feather detail, and light. You might have brought the bird's left wing into the frame right from the corner by pointing your lens a bit more to our right. Was that left wing raised a bit when you made the image?

    Was this at a feeder?

How do you like your 35-350?

    Hello Arthur!

And thank you for your comments and advise. The left wing was not raised. The bird is wild and was ready to eat guava fruit, I made some images of this friendly fellow but didn't wanted to include the whole bird since the perch and lower BG where a bit busy. As I mention, I have some more images of this fellow, and probably I will upload more in the next days.
My lens is pretty old and is not the best, it does not have IS and have trouble focusing at times, especially at low light, I have lost many good opportunities because of that, but well, that,s my main ''horse'' as some of you say and most of my images are made with this little rig. May be 2010 will bring more work and equipment.:)

Hi JC, YAW. Are you sure that the bird was not starting to lift the left wing? We can see a lot more of the underside of the wing (the yellow) than on the right wing.

Well your lens may not be the latest greatest but it is making some good images. Must be your fault!

I like the sharpness, BG, open beak and colors. I only wish the angle were not as steep. As for the lifted wing, was it warm when you made this image, maybe the bird was trying to stay cool?

The reason that I mentioned it is that that wing is so far from the plane of focus that it is not at all sharp. It's a very minor distraction but it would have been better for the image if it had been folded normally....

I like the light, and colours, and you have captured excellent detail. Good to see the slightly open beak. I like this lots.

Hola, Juan Carlos. Great job to get so close to this guy as this is not an easy task. In my opinion, the light with its warmth and delicate shadows is great and, together with the blue sky background, makes for a really nice portrait of this guy. The side light really brings out nice texture in the beak and face.

    Saludos,
    Greg
