I had almost forgotten about Virtual Painter. It was one of the first Photoshop plug-ins I ever tried. I dusted it off and gave it a shot.

This is Gouache on Smooth Paper. All the settings are "subtle" and the leaves were selected as the focal point.

I also did a little bit of cloning to remove a few distracting spots.

Patti, Nice job. I have never used the program, are there alot of other features? I like the multi-colored BG and the life you brought into those dull leaves. Well done.

The possibilities in OOTB are endless! I really like the colors in your interpretation.

    Thanks Denise and Nick.

Denise, Virtual Painter (VP) has been out for many years and was very clunky when it first came out. Since then it has been refined quite a bit and had many improvements. It is somewhat similar to DAP, but not nearly as versatile.

There are several different styles (watercolor, oil painting, gouache, etc.), several different background textures to choose (paper, canvas, stucco, etc.) and then you can tweak several parameters such as color, degree of distortion, etc. You can mask out what you feel is the focal point and then you just start it up and it goes to the end. You can't stop it along the way, but it is very fast, so you can go back and retweak some of the settings to get what you want.

More about it and a trial version here.

My personal opinion is that if you have DAP, you don't really need VP.
