    Default Marbled Godwit

I photographed this Marbled Godwit in some nice afternoon light while out in California.

The rich colors--great light make this one a good one for me.

Nice pose with perfect head angle. Great EXP control. The wet face feathers give the impression of softness, but the eye is sharp.

Beautiful light on a wonderful subject (MG's are one of my favorite subjects).

Overall, the subject looks just a little soft? (I do realize that some of the plumage is wet).

I like the light, angle and eye contact and would sharpen the bird a bit more.

Very nice Doug, love the colors and HA, BG is nice too, it may just be my screen but I'd sharpen the feathers a bit more, nice detail! TFS

    Great subject and super light.

Image looks a little soft, maybe more USM is needed. Also laying in the water or mud would have given you a better background.

Looking at it again it looks like textbook back focus. The legs and rear look sharper.

After looking at this again, I would agree with Robert. The focus point does appear to be toward the back leg and you can see this in the water as well.

I agree with the slight backfocus diagnosis. I'm still learning how to use the new AF modes, and I was probably using AF expansion points for this image. Not as precise as center point, which is what I normally use. This was also an image that I processed on my laptop; for whatever reason, I've gotten feedback on several of those images about lack of sharpness. Here's a repost with additional sharpening.

Repost does look better. Image still has a soft, warm glow to it that I personally think looks good.
