It depends on your price range. I got a Vostro 420 with monitor for about $600 and it is light years faster than my "graphics" computer at work. The dell has a core2quad and 6 gb ram(topped off myself for $30). The lcd shows more in the shadow areas than my CRT at work, but that's lcd....

Earlier this year, faced with the same decision, I decided I would much rather learn to use the Mac interface than stay with Windows and adjust to Vista. The learning curve was short and sweet - hardly any tantrums! You may enjoy learning Windows 7 - I've no idea.
The big decider for me was the quality of the iMac monitor. Now I find the synchronization and back-up capabilities on the Mac are years ahead of what I was used to with Windows.
    After a short while I couldn't understand why I hadn't switched sooner!

    Good luck!
