    Default Pacific Loon

When one is glued to the desk stumbling across some images of past field seasons gives a vicarious escape. Here's a Pacific Loon from a few summers ago. The head angle is a bit suboptimal in this one but that is the price for showing off the nice puffy neck that this species has.

Nice looking bird. Could just be me, but I'm seeing a lack of overall fine detail on the bird.

Yet the water adjacent seems quite sharp. Is this an illusion to do with the feathering?

Although the bird is swimming away from you and the HA is not ideal, exposure, comp, and specimen are good. I would prefer a lower angle though.

Even though the head angle is not ideal I think it does showcase the neck area and beautiful plumage. One neat looking bird Declan.

I think the laxk of detail is part illusion and part the reduction for the site. There is more feather detail on the head than I expected but the dense, wet, jet black portions just sort of form a body suit. Low is usually better but alas I have none of this bird. Probably should as I think I shipped some water in my waders getting to this site! I do have some other Pacific Loons I took while I was in the water but I liked the head on this individual.

Nice to see you here Phil!
