Default Raptor ID - White tailed kite - Thanks!

In going through some old photos, I ran across this one that I couldn't ID.

I don't remember the size, but it was shot on December 10, 2004 in Galveston, Texas.

Unfortunately all the photos I have are from the same angle and cropped quite a bit.

    Any ideas?

This looks like a juv. kite, probably White-tailed or maybe Mississippi?

It looks like an immature white-tailed kite.

Hi Patti- Not from first hand knowledge but this is very close to Sibley's drawing of an immature White-tailed Kite Elanus leucurus. Adults would lack the reddish brown around the head, upper breast and back.

It is not a Mississippi kite. It is too white. Juv MIKIs have more streaking around the head and underside.

Dan, Isaac and John, Thanks much. I was looking at the Kites because of all the white, but I was fooled by all of the brown and detail on the wings. None of my books show that, not even on the juveniles.

    Appreciate the help,
    Patti
