Default Mark IV Images Taken Down...

After getting permission to post pre-production images created with the M IV that I was testing my contact at Canon called and asked that the images be removed. I will un-delete the posts as soon as I get permission to post the images. I will start an info post here later today. Gotta get to work selling Alan Murphy Songbird Guides....

Hi Guert, I will do that this afternoon. Right now I got tons of work to do, the phone is ringing non-stop, and I need to get some serious exercise in. Check back later today.

    Artie:

As a primary Nikon user, I must ask what's the problem with Canon? First they launch the new PowerShot S90 compact digital camera without the ability of the accompanying software to handle the camera's RAW images. And now this.

Ask them, not me. And when you are done, ask Nikon why they do not make a compatible extension tube.

Though I am a Canon user, I am no fan boy. I can say that these things do happen. Decisions are not just taken by a single person. It is a very fluid situation on the day of the launch. And this applies to nearly all the electronic manufacturing companies. These days most of these companies are a bit circumspect. Other than the official ones, are there any preproduction Nikon D3s images (not videos) available at the moment? Look forward to hearing your impressions and the images when ever you can.

    Cheers,
    Sabyasachi

As noted in my "Canon PowerShot S90" thread below in this forum, I am a dedicated Nikon user who has merely made a brief excursion into the Canon world for the limited purpose of obtaining their new compact camera. So I don't think I'm in the best position to ask Canon such questions.

I do not understand what one thing has to do with another. Do you not think that they know that I wish to publish the images?

    Artie...

I look forward to your review, especially regarding the AF.

a 16MP body with a 1.3 crop could cover an awful lot of bases if the noise characteristics were at least as good as what I saw from the MKIII.

    Hey Artie,
I look forward to your samples and especially your comments regarding the AF system of the new camera and its improvements compared to the MKIII.

Hey Artie, I saw those images before they were taken down, and they looked pretty excellent to me.

I hope Canon is not going to send someone around to do a "Men in Black" flashy-thingy procedure on me!

I can forget that I saw them...I promise!!

    Artie:

My tongue-in-cheek comments above concerning some minor Canon difficulties notwithstanding, I look forward to the information you may provide on the new camera. And above all else, I am an admirer who respects and enjoys your efforts to bring the beauty of nature through your lenses to millions of viewers.

Thanks for your kind words. It is sometimes difficult to distinguish tongue-in-cheek from deadly serious on line.

It is hard to communicate feelings in email but it really helps if you use a emoticon with a statement such as "tongue-in-cheek comments:)" it will go along ways in keeping the water smooth.

I find it incomprehensible that Canon doesn't understand that asking you to take down previously approved images is far worse publicity than just permitting the images to stay posted. It clearly implies that there is something wrong with the camera, whether there is or not!

Bill- Personally I really don't like those *&^ody things especially the winking one! Didn't someone once say "Gentlemen don't use emoticons". I'm a bit old-fashioned in this regard and prefer to try to word-smith instead or just use a !. Sometimes I get it wrong but that's life.

I am not trying to be argumentative but I used to feel the same way. But then I was told to use the tools available. Like when a new camera comes out I try to use the new items.

Alan, I do think that that is a big stretch as the folks in Lake Success loved the images.... And after the last fiasco do you really think that they would announce a camera with a serious problem???

I don't disagree with you, Artie. It's just that Canon's actions in this case are difficult to fathom, particularly if they loved the images, and raise questions.

Artie, I suspect that you did not know that that particular emoticon :D is in fact meant to represent how many of us see the good folks at Canon, as grinning buffoons who, though technological wizards, sometimes simply can't see the wood for the trees.

Never mind Artie we respect you as an artist not a mechanic and Canon would do well to realize that to get you to withdraw those images has caused many of us to think twice about the veracity of their claims for this camera.

Understood, but Canon is not the one using the :D.

ps: I am in good company; they made Vincent LaForet take down his incredible MIV video. You can still see it by following John Chardine's Canon Rumors link above (I think).

I am sure that Canon is not thrilled with that though I have no comprehension as to why as the video, which was taken pretty much in the dark, was amazing. As was the story as to how Vincent created it....

I thought that the video was exceptional and that it would be great marketing for Canon.

If there truly is some beef between the mothership in japan and Canon USA, they are being total bafoons in public by yanking images and this video.

I agree that the video was quite amazing. And I have no clue as to the relationship between Canon USA and Canon Japan.

I do think that if a Nikon guy is gonna refer to the folks at Canon as being total buffoons that they might consider spelling it correctly to avoid looking like one. :) :) :)

Right now I'm hearing "... it looks like they will allow images to be posted in November..."

So by all accounts the Mark 1D4 is only a few weeks from release and still none of the "testers" can share their images?

Has any other images popped up besides the Flickr & Wedding Photographer images?

    Thanks,
