    Default Say's Phoebe Set-up

Alan Murphy and I were shooting in New Mexico and knew we would have an opportunity to photograph Say's Phoebes. While driving around we saw this sumac plant growing along side of the road and we new the bird would look great on it, eating the berries was a nice bonus. :)

Capturing the berry eating just set this off beautifully. Like the background and the pose of the bird and sumac bush. Excellent.

First. let me say this is a fantastic shot, Scott! Second, I was lucky enough to see a slide show presentation given by Alan. I thought I knew how to shoot birds with nice backgrounds. Boy was I wrong. I came away shaking my head at how little I actually knew. Alan is a master and I learned so much in 45 minutes that I can't wait for his book to come out. Every serious bird photographer needs to get a copy just to try to even the playing field.

The berries really make this shot. Of course the bird looks great too. The composition is excellent with nice balance.

    This is just superb!
Compo, BG pose all fantastic as is the perch.
The berry in the mouth is a big bonus and puts the image over the top.
