Added canvas to LHS slight crop. This BIF was a little outside the reach of the 400MM (estimate 70 feet) but I liked the wing position. The eye is small in the frame, I worked it a tad anyway.

    Hi Jeff,
Nice picture, it has a good exposure of the pelican without blowing out the sky. I think you could have cropped in closer all around, in stead of adding to the LHS.
    Thank you,
    Clive

Hi Jeff Your basic flight exp is about one over the sky and for pelicans can go even more, did you have to do any shadow highlight?

... that is one ragged looking bird !!! I like the pose, timing and wing position !!!

    Hi Jeff,
I like the capture and the raised wing position with the flipped wing tips...the under wing details is good...agree with the good advise given...looking forward to your next one...

Clive, good suggestion but I try not to crop any more than needed, it hurts the image quality

Al, the light was in and out. I was 1.5 over manual and changed to AV and dialed in +2/3 long story and a storm was coming. Yes, I used S & H +18,..the image is really too much of a reach for the 400MM. I have purchased a 500 and a 7D, images like this will be easier starting next week.

Love the pose and the wing position. Enjoy your new toys, you made me very jealous with the longer lens :)

Jeff, looks like we're both into our toys.... I love my new 500mm. BTW, just ordered the new 1d Mark IV. Hopefully get it by the end of the year (it's on pre-order). It was just announced a few hours ago......

Richard, we are a good team,... "Rich Cashdollar"

I wish so, yes I am waiting on my stuff, did you get the 7D? I was told (I need to research) it will not support the 1.4 TC with AF?
