    Default Barn Owl (C)

    Canon 50D
    Canon 300mm f2.8 handheld
    Aperture Priority @ f4
    Shutter Speed 1/1250
    ISO 200
    Evaluative metering @ -4/3

I just noticed something about this image, as shown here, that bothers me. I posted this image on another forum and when I compare the IQ of the 2 images this one is most definitely soft relative to the other. I had a look at the physical dimensions of the 2 and oddly this image is physically larger, in fact it's about an inch wider which totally confuses me because I posted them from the same site (Photobucket) using the same methodology (copying the URL). Any thoughts?

    Hello Malcolm,
Sharpness is a tricky thing. To my untrained eye this seems sharp. I would like to see the other picture. you may want to try to darken the background on the lower left. The white flowers are just a bit distracting.
    Thanks for sharing,
    Clive

Sharpness looks good on my screen, can you post a link to your other image?
Good HA and an open beak is a plus, love the feather details around the face. Wing position wise I wish I can see the underwing detail of the left wing, but still this is a great image and a keeper. Also there a bit blown highlight on the wing, but not much, you probably can recover these if you shoot RAW.

Thanks for the comments Clive, Thanaboon and Alfred. The other forum is Natures Best Creations look for a posting called Barn Owls (C) :
    http://www.naturesbestcreations.com/...3ab70eb103298d

and the hosting site is Photobucket:
    http://s467.photobucket.com/albums/r...5_edited-1.jpg

As for the process .. they were shot is RAW, processed, resized, sharpened and saved as Jpegs then uploaded to Photobucket. For Forum posting all I do is copy the URL for the individual image and paste it into the posting to create the link. My assumption was that because it's a link that the image should be shown in the Forum just as it appears in Photobucket but fo rsome reason that's not happening here.

Ok now this is where it gets more strange. On my desktop the image seen here is about 1 inch wider than as seen on the other two sites but on my laptop it is actually the same size as Photobucket and it looks fine.

I'll try using Flickr as a hosting site and see if that works better.

I don't see much different (if there is any) between the one post here, in Photobucket or flickr. But the one post in Natures Best Creation look to have a tighter crop on the right hand side. You cannot see the white stuff in the background on the RHS there.

Thanks for having another look. The base image is the same (no different crops) and they are all linked to Photobucket so I'm not sure why on some sites it looks better than on others .. I guess I'll need to spend some time on this before posting again .. thanks again.
