    Default Autumn Deer

I finally got out again with the camera! Seems like forever since I last used the 600mm (July was the last use I think) so it was great to finally get out for a couple of hours. Headed to Bushy Park to check out the rut. Lots of noise but no action. My fav shots was this younger deer in side light, caused by low level sun late in the afternoon which really brought the autumnal colours to life. I processed for the contrasty look on purpose, there should still be detail visible in the shadow areas but didn't bring it out too much on purpose. (mixed feelings on this, some like it, some would prefer a tad more shadow detail)

Cropped by about 25% all round for web presentation so you can see the details a little better. Actually looking now I see I have given a slight bias to cropping from the top so the subject is a little too central, oops, user error!

    Hi Richard,

It seems the rut this year is as you mention, noise but little action.
Sorry to hear you have not been out with your camera. I'd suggest you spend more time with the 600mm and less with my friend Rich Steel !

Your image has a lovely soft feel and a great connection with the subject. Details can be seen in the shadows on this screen.

Congrats on the new web site as well. Looks good to me.

    Cheers

    Austin

Hi Richard I like the idea of what you are doing, would like a less abrupt transition with more detail in the shadow area particularly in the face area. Brilliant concept !!!

Clever lighting, although I wish the left side was evenly lit. Overall very pleasing and glad you are in the filed again :)

I like the approach here too with the lighting... I like that the ears are rimmed in light. Might like to see the dark side lightened some to see how that works. Congrats.

Like the BG colors and head on look of the deer. The shadowed side is okay with me as presented but I might also enjoy seeing a touch more detail too.
