This shot has given me more satisfaction than I can remember from taking a photo. For 25 years I've wanted to photograph this species and I haven't come close. They're hard enough to see let alone photograph. They live in heathy woodland and the first indication of their presence is when they erupt in a whirring blur.

Great shot demonstrating why his feather detail works so well to camoflage. Amazing.

I like the detail and colours Rob, and I dont mind the busy BG in this at all. Well captured.

Congrats on finally getting an image of this species - wow, 25 years...you must be really happy! I love the plumage on this guy. I do wish for a better HA (would he have reacted positively to a short pish or squeaking noise?). I don't mind the BG either, but I would recommend eliminating the white streak behind the head - and I'm torn on the two white flowers. Raising the colour temp may be another option too...

This is on my list too mate! My only chance was at Homebush Bay when one casually walked across the path in front of me within the minimal focusing distance of my 300mm! That's 1.5 meters! HAHAHA! I long to get an incredibly nice shot like this! Well done mate, shows their stunning plumage perfectly. I am jealous! :D

Fantastic Rob. All the aussies on here will know how hard it is to get this species.
25 years is a long time to wait but the payoff here is well worth it. Congratulations.

Well done Rob. A fine bird in habitat image. Sharp and well exposed.
Given the degree of difficulty with this species I wouldn't change a thing.
Only 24 more years for me to bag this one.:)

Fantastic Rob. Excellent detail and low angle. I'm still at the flush stage.
