    Default Sanderling

From last Sunday morning. The tide was going out. I was near water shooting away from the surf. One of a group of birds feeding.

Good job on exposing the whites. I think the image could use some clockwise rotation and I would remove the second catchlight.

I like the pose, eye contact and particularly the colors in the water. Another vote for CW rotation.

If you look closely at the ripples, you can see that the image needs to be leveled.

I absolutely love the light and the bird and the simplicity of the design. And the layers of gray and blue. I have one very important question: do you have any more room below??????

Can anyone age this bird? We are having tons of fun over in Avian ID and learning a lot in the process.

Awesome feeding behaviour image! The suggested level correction would really do this image justice. The checkered (or "spangled") black-and-white plumage would identify this little fellow as a (worn?) juvenile.

Thanks for the comments. In order to rotate the image and have room to crop I had to go back to the raw file. BTW, I love how Nikon NX has all the steps you did. Then I rotated and saved as tiff. In PS, I had to re-do steps there, but of course, there is no list of what I had done. Tell me if you think the processing on the re-do is similar to the original.

Daniel is right on a worn juvie. It is molting to first winter. Notice a few newly molted pure gray scapulars and one pure gray tertial.

The repost looks great and the small bit of extra room at the bottom is a huge improvement. In the original post the head in the blue water was squeezed from the bottom--in the repost there is a nice gray border all along the bottom edge.

The repost looks better, I might just sharpen the body and head a bit more.
