Northern Harrier banking

This is from the raptor shoot in Half Moon Bay, CA. Harriers often turn their head in the direction they are banking, making it difficult to get full under the wing detail in banking position, I got lucky with this one :D

D700+200-400 f/4 VR + 1.4X TC, f/8 1/2000sec ISO 1600 HH, sw : NX2.

Gorgeous sub adult male in fresh plumage. You really nailed this one man. All the details are there. Wouldn't change a thing. Do you use a blind and attract them in any way. The ones I've seen around here avoid my lens like the plague. Congrats

Pretty sweet. I'm sure the HAP will find minor issues with the birds gaze but I think I prefer this as shot. Well done.

Brain, I did not use a blind what I have learned (I might be wrong, behavioral experts please correct me) is that harriers fly in circles and chasing them is pretty useless so I try to scout their path first and then position myself at angle where the light is good and hope that they fly back to me :D

For me, el capitain of the HAP, the head angle is spot-on. And so is the image. What light and what a bird. And sharp. I am thinking that this is a young male with that gray wash around the hind neck. The underwing detail is killer.

Great wing position, light, sharpness and complementing BG. The head angle looks fine but I wouldn't mind if there were a bit more head turn toward you.
