Atmosphere...

Hello all,


Personally I really like those pictures filled with atmosphere.

Here the mist was present on Carbonneau's marsh (Quebec, Canada) early in the morning giving a special light all around this Great Blue Heron looking like an hermit.

Any comments?

You are right, there is tons of atmosphere here. The mist is nice, and I like the "swampy" look to this marsh. I'm thinking the image may have been underexposed and brought back up in PP as there is plenty of colour noise apparent on the heron's plumage. Not crazy about the large branch sticking out over the head.

Daniel hit the important points, re: noise and branch. A couple of steps to your left if possible would have cleared the branch from behind the head. Always a challenge to catch it all in camera, as our eyes don't see the way the camera sees. I like the spider webs.

I looked at your image a bit longer, and wondered if a change in approach might be possible. Since some of the issues result from bringing up the exposure, I went the other way, to play up the backlighting, and perhaps make it even moodier. The branch is still a problem, but perhaps less so in the darker image.

It all comes down to the story,mood you are after. Just a different take on your original.

Michel...I like shots with habitat. Its certainly challenging. I like the mood in this a lot...love the light as well....but the branch behind the head is a real problem. Liked Randy's repost more.

Something different from the norm, and the setting works for me. Exposure wise, I feel between your OP and Randy's will work best.

I like the OP, the back light has got certain quality to it, the challenge is darks on the bird, looks somewhat grainy I would be tempted to run NR.

I agree with you for the noise presence in the plumage and the disturbing trunk behind its head.
