    Default Giraffe dreaming

The original of this image was taken on a gloomy day, no contrast … muddy, horrible and the only thing going for it was the 3 giraffe on the horizon. So I thought it was a good image to have a first attempt at the OOTB forum because I couldn't make it worse.

I have separated the foreground, giraffes and background so that I could increase saturation and contrast in differing amounts using levels, curves and masking. I used a warming filter (81), diffuse glow filter and a sandstone texture. I think that is all. I tried lots of different things, deleting and retrying and forgot to write down all the steps.

    Comments appreciated.

Hilary, Welcome to OOTB! Great job on the image and it looks like you added an orton effect to it.Very nice softened look and color tones. The texture looks good and not overpowering. I like it alot! Hope to see more of your work posted here. You seem to have an artistic eye!!

Hi Hillary, Interesting image with the subjects placed nicely in the frame. I feel that cropping out half the sky would make the image stronger...

Hi Hillary, Good job creating a pleasing picture out of this. I like the texture and soft colors, and agree on cropping some off the top. Very interesting composition with the giraffes.

Thanks everyone, I'm going to print it onto art paper and will crop out some of the sky… we'll see how it goes.
