Looks like the head is a bit OOF, maybe due to shallow depth of field? The body looks sharp, though.

You got the bird with snack in nice light with good BG however the bird is looking away and focus is on the body instead of eye. perch could be better too. TFS and better luck next time :)

Hi! I wondered if DOF would be a problem, but unsure how far to push ISO before noise became too much.

Hi Ben, if I recall, you are shooting with a 50D. You can push the ISO higher than 800, and still get good results. Arash hit the notes on the head. Keep them coming.
