Managed to grab a couple of last minute shots, way after the sun had gone down of this Elephant herd coming down to drink. Very little light left for AF to function, a lot of credit goes to the value of a good prime lens and the D3.
Moremi Game Reserve- Okavango Delta.
D3 500VR 1/4s ISO3200 f/4. Monopod. Converted to B&W in CS3, slight increase in blacks for added contrast.
This is different Marc. Lots to enjoy! Like the conversion and blur the ss created and only thought being to crop half the lower water off. Well done and seen.
Marc, I like the falling water from their trunks, and always good to see the little guys inbetween the legs of mom and dad. I would maybe boost the contrast a tad.
Wonderful image as presented, I would not change a thing. I especially like the combination of sharp where it needs to be and motion blurred areas providing a sense of movement within the image. Love the B&W.
IQ outstanding for the ISO and conditions and love it for all the reasons Chas mentioned. the blurry trunks makes this one for me - I would also increase contrast a bit more :)
Marc,
Lovely image. It is great that even at 1/4s you got it nicely using a monopod. I like the black and white conversion. The water falling from the trunks add a lot.
Many thanks for the positive comments guys. I don't think this would have been possible to achieve without VR/IS and the low ISO capability DSLR's of today.
