    Hi Everyone,
Another one from my trip to Florida. I thought that the blur reflected the fact that these little birds are rarely still......what do you think?

Hi Nicki, when I read your explanation, I like the photo very much. It does display movement, but I think you might get comments regarding the sharpness in the head/eye area. (Or lack thereof). Do like the high key and the image overall, very refreshing.

    Hi Jackie! :)
Thanks for your comments. I guess I am just trying to convey a touch of realism. I don't necessarily believe in conforming to the norm of a perfectly sharp image in order to show the beauty.
Good to chat with you again - it's been a while...:D
    Best regards,
    Nicki

I dunno Nicki...to show movement I would have preferred to see leg blur instead. For me the eye needs to be sharp, but I do like your experimental thinking.

Hi Nicki: Another interesting image from you. The horizontal movement doesn't work for me on this. If it were vertical movement it would make more sense to convey the behavior of this little bird in their constant quest for some morsel to eat. The high key works well for the image. High key seems to be one of your signature trademarks.

I personally like the different perspective Nicki. Good to see that you have the courage to cop canon fire for daring something not often posted. :D I also really enjoy the high key look to your image. :)

Nicki, I am not crazy about blur images but this one is cute. I think a horizontal crop would have been better since the action is lower.

I like the high key, Nicki. The blur captures the head rotation well. I think it would work better if the shoulder were the point of critical focus instead of the back and legs as this would highlight the motion blur of the head. The fact that the shoulder appears OOF gives the impression that the head is OOF plus motion blur and the eyes lock onto the back and legs as areas of maximal contrast and sharpness.

    Hi Daniel, Keith and Akos!
Thank you for your comments - it is so interesting for me to read peoples' differing opinions and I knew that not everyone was going to like this image!!:)
Actually, I set out on a quest to capture movement that day, and when I reviewed my images I saw that I had all types of movement, vertical, horizontal: you name it, I had it...so I have been working on a panel of pictures that shows sanderlings in motion - all types of motion...:D
Akos, glad you liked it - oh, and I have just been to a talk about this Summer's Ashes series...:D:D:D
    Best regards,
    Nicki

Ummm. I know I live in Oz, but I cannot stand cricket. So you folks in the UK can keep all the ashes and cups AFAIAC, for this comment I may be labeled un-Australian, as I also don't really like either form of rugby - real football (gimme Becks anyday) all the way thank you. :) OTOH I love a good stir and can cop as much as I can give. :)

Hi Nicki, As you know, I love blurs. When I saw the thumbnail here I loved it. I love the angles and the COMP. But oh how I wish that the head were sharp.... Hey, how about some Indian food?

I love the high-key but I am in the more traditional camp - give me a head as static as stone. :)

Hi Nicki, The high key works for me, and love the crossed legs. However, the blurred head does not work for me. I would have preferred a sharp head and blurred body or legs. Are you a cricket fan, as you guys are coming over here in a couple of weeks - could be some interesting banter between us. ;)

Nice one Nicki! Love the high key and your out of the box thinking. Nicely done. (Can see where you are going as oft seen blurred shots of owl heads, which are quite effective). Hey, re the cricket, can't imagine the banter will be that good for us poms.... :D, specially if its one day'ers.....

    Hi David,
I knew that a Brit would get it!!! :D
Looking forward to the cricket, but have to agree that it is probably not looking good for us...
    Glad you enjoyed the image!
    Best regards,
    Nicki
