    Default Frog Appetizer

    Attached Images Attached Images

Yesterday, around 8AM. Little Blue Heron on a mission
Canon EOS 40D, Canon 70-200 f/4L at 200mm, Flash mounter but did not fire
Manual Exposure 1/2000, f/4, ISO 640, Shade WB manual, A1 Servo, Raw, Image was dark but CS4 used for brightening, Too many adjustments to remember.
Any help about getting my flash to fire continuous to help situations like this would help greatly. I am using high speed synch, but only one flash every few seconds. I like to go out around daybreak.

    Hi Bill,
I wouldn't care to be that frog!!
I cannot help you with the flash, but I do love the action that you have caught here. Gotta love those feet...
I also like the comp - simple and effective.
    Best,
    Nicki

Bill, in burst mode it is normal that the flash only goes off every few seconds (and thus only every few frames)...that is the time it takes to recharge to fire off again. It gets progressively worse as the batteries lose juice so always best to maximize this with freshly charged batteries.

I had a feeling the image was originally underexposed as the PP to bring the exposure back up has introduced lots of noise on the bird's plumage. I like the prey...but this guy is obviously doomed!!

    Bill:

None of the regular flashes can keep up with the cameras FPS. You can help yourself with however with:
    1)fresh batteries
    2) Better beamer -makes the flash more efficient, wastes less energy, recycles faster
3)External power pack - have to be careful not to burn up the flash
4)higher ISO - less flash energy needed

Daniel hit the noise issue, which is the big problem with this image.

    Cheers

    Randy

That was what I was thinking about the flash. I got rid of the noise in background but not the bird using masks. Thats fine, I will get it again , but without the froggy. Oh well, another try but no results. It was there again today, but just a static subject.
