    Default Ruby-crowned Kinglet.

I tried or these guys Saturday with no luck - there were plenty of them but they wouldn't come out of the bushes. I tried again on Monday at a different location and BINGO! Audio used both times...just shows you how hit-and-miss this technique can be - but when it hits, it HITS.:)

    Canon 40D + 100-400L @400mm, aperture priority, evaluative metering, 1/1000s., f/7.1, ISO 500, no EC, natural light, handheld, about 75% full-frame.

Sweet. Too bad it did not get pissed off at the tape and raise that little crest. (Only kidding...) Lovely light, bird, sharpness, and I like the off-centered COMP.

Daniel I laughed when I saw your post because it is almost identical to the shot I tried to get on Sunday in my backyard of this exact same bird in a blue spruce tree. Are you sure you weren't hiding in my yard. I didn't notice you.:D The only problem with my image is all I got is the birds rump as it turned just as I hit the shutter. Thanks for showing me how to did it right.

Good job, Dan. Lovely light, pose, comp, perch and BG. Great when a plan finally comes together.

Nicely framed between the foliage, with a perfect pose. Good detail, and love the eye. Killer BG too. Well captured Dan.
