fairly large crop, I know this isn't to everyone's liking but I liked how cute it looked all wet and in a small sand burrow-it was cold yesterday and all the shorebirds were in the dunes.

I like it Denise! Very intimate view of this littel fellow trying to protect itself from the elements. Having gone just a little higher would have given a bit better separation between OOF FG and subject, but still very appealing. The sand stuck on the bill adds to the character of this particular image.

Hi Denise, I like the DOF effect here, and looks like you couldnt have got any lower - excellent low angle. I like the overall detail, and would maybe take about half off the top. Well captured.

Wonderful image that held together very well for a large crop. Love the low angle and detail you captured.

I love the low angle, but I might have gotten a little higher so that we could see a bit more of the bird. Great eye contact and speaking of the eye, it's razor sharp. Slightly more DOF might have helped bring the tip of the bill into focus. Overall a very intimate portrait!

Thanks guys. I was sitting on the ground for this-I felt that if I went higher I would be looking down on the bird and that would have been a different image IMO. I appreciate your thoughts and Doug I'll try to stop down a bit more next time. I appreciate the feedback.

    Hi Denise:

This capture is unique...not what we normally see. I love the fact that the bird is all wet and scraggley and has sand all over its bill. The head is in such great focus that I don't feel as though you needed the tip of the bill in focus. Yes, a very slightly vantage point may have helped but this is one to be proud of. It has a tender feel to it.

Agree with all the positives above but the image has a pretty good red cast (especailly considering the seemingly dreary weather...) that I reduced with the Average Blur Color Balance trick.

I am going to agree with everyone else Denise and say I am really liking your image. The in your face look on the bird and the low angle make for a very different but cool look. Nice job!

Great looking Image denise, loved the angle and the light fron the opp side on the face makes this for me, the colour adjustment sure has added well, congrats... but I loved the OP too as the red gives a warming feeling to the frame..

Matt and Kiran, Thankyou both for your comments. I appreciate your thoughts.
Kiran, I think I will add a bit of warmth-but Artie's adjustment made me realize how mush red was in the image. The sunrise that morning filled the sky w/ red's and oranges.

A lovely and intimate portrait Denise. :) I also wish for a little more DOF. Why not at least 400 ISO? Anyway, I cannot comment on colors as to me the surrounds and species and conditions present are not known. Your one is warm and the Maestro's is dreary, I guess to match what he said were conditions on the day. Both look great!
