    Default Belted Kingfishers Viera

Just got back from Florida from a family holiday so never had a lot of time, this visit, for any real bird photography but I managed to get out on a couple of days to Viera Wetlands. I had my D3, D300, 300F4 and teleconverters with me but regretably left my 500Vr at home.

This next shot was with the D300, 300F4 AF-S and the 1.7x teleconverter. I saw lots of Belted Kingfishers on this visit (hence the regret at not taking the 500 this time) but none of them ever got very close. I was sat in the car slowly going around the outside loop of Viera when i saw 2 Kingfishers sat on a snag not too far from the roadside. As I approached they did not move and stayed motionless even when i stopped and turned off the car engine. I looked around and saw an Osprey sat on another snag about 20 meters from the Kingfishers which i'm assuming is the reason for the Kingfisher's staying where they were for so long.

Anyway, here is the shot I liked the most. Its still quite a large crop and i've had to lighten the lower bird up a little as he/she was in shadow but its a shot ive wanted to get for a long time and never thought i would.

    I hope you like it.

    best wishes

    Colin.

    Colin,
Interesting shot. Usually they are fighting with oneanother over their territory. Good perch and nice complimentary head angles.

No fair Colin. I can't get one of these guys and you get two in one shot. Congrats on the opportunity. I really like the compostion here and the head angles on both birds is excellent.
