    Default 1D mk IV

Canon Rumors gives a rating of CR 2.5-2.9 ("very solid source") that Canon will announce on 20 October.

Interesting, I didn't know there were pre-order lists for cameras that have not been released yet.

Axel, I was speaking with Gary at Hunts and said I wanted to order a Mark 4 when it was announced. He said they were developing a list and would place my name on it. I expect that whenever the announcement occurs I will be asked to place a deposit. I do not yet know what the price will be.

    Thanks, Ed! Good to know.

Nikon just announced the D3s with 102,400 ISO, so maybe that wasn't a typo.

    Link.

    ISO 102,400 (H3)

Without going to H3 I'm guessing ISO 6,400 and 12,800 will have little or no noise.

CR1 Spec for the 1D3 replacement is as follows

    16mp
    12fps
    1.3x (APS-H)
    1080p Video (24p/25p 30p 60p)

I find it odd that the purported MP count doesnt match those of the 7d.

So as soon as this you-beaut 1D MkIV comes out and anyone out there is willing to part with their often complained about MkIII for a grand or so, I will take it. :D

The results are quite predictable. Digital camera sensors record about 1200 to 1600 electrons per square micron. So if the new camera has about 4.7 micron square pixels, then it will record a maximum of about 35000 electrons per pixel at low ISO, near ISO 100. On an 18% gray level, that means about 6300 photons near ISO 100. At ISO 102,400, the signal is down about 100x, so you'll get only about 63 photons for a signal-to-noise ratio of only about 8. That will be a pretty noisy image.

To see predictions of performance, plot the pixel pitch on the colored lines on the plots at:
    http://www.clarkvision.com/imagedeta...rmance.summary

The noise performance is pretty predictable. Let's hope for some hot new performance in AF and data write speed. I would also like to see 16-bit A/D with lower read noise at low ISO.
