Default A VERY HOT Viera Wetlands today

Well, I got out today trying to endure this heat:eek:. Will it ever end!! Anyway, not too much going on, so I decided to keep my handholding skills up with the 500:eek:. Did I say it was hot!!! Anyway, the osprey's were around for me to practice on. Taken with the D300, Nikon 500 f/4, f/7.1, iso 640, 1/1250. C&C always welcomed.

Wing position, eye contact, and sharpness are all very nice. Some of the whites on top of the head look a little cooked. I find the colors to be just slightly off, a little oversaturated (the eye in particular). Otherwise very nice.

    Nancy:

    Doug hit the major points.

On my monitor it is just a bit oversharpened as I am starting to see jaggies on the primary feathers on the right wing. There is also a faint but broad halo around the bird.

I am a bit uncertain about the light angle here. The detail under the wing is very good, yet the top of the wing is also brightly lit. Was there light reflecting up from below?

I like that the beak and head don't merge with the far wing.

33 degrees here this AM. Want to trade?

    Cheers

    Randy

I'd be interested in seeing the original Nancy. The repost doesn't really address the issues that I see.

    Hi Nancy,
Beautiful shot, eye contact, wing position, details. However the head whites have been completely blown and trying recovery in post has resulted in grey tonality in originally white areas. I guess this was overexposed by a good 2 stops unless something weird is happening in the post, but I might be wrong.

Love this image and I wish it where in my files.
Doug and Randy addressed some good points here. I spent some time with this one in PS, I hope you don't mind.

Juan's repost is more along the lines of what I imagine this image should look like. I'd bring down the yellow in the eye a few clicks and fix the halo too.
