From the recent Yellowstone trip, Fabs with Moosie Moose !!! Very gentle animal and would pose for photographers. Fortunate to have been on a trip with Dale Franz otherwise would have missed the animal, pays to have a local guide !!! The moose was hanging around a trailer camp !!! ... image made with Canon G10.

    Comments welcome and much appreciated

Must have been a great experience. We will have to get back there sometime. Looks like Fabs is getting a wonderfully low angle on this one.

Had a chance to go there this year with some photographers and a local that go every year. Couldn't go because the studio was so busy. Never been there before. Bummer...!

    Looks like fun!

Beautiful shot. Does pay off to have someone experienced to help you track. Fabs looks pretty relaxed in this shot, no danger from that rack.

Nice shot, looks a like a big fella. This wouldn't happen to be near the Gros Ventre River would it. If it is, I think this guy was hanging out there this time last year.

    Neat image Al.

Reminds me of the camping experience we had, a few years back in Yellowstone, when my friend opened the tent fly to find a baby moose looking him in the eye. His camera was in the car ... safe ... but ...

Well, after the up close bird nesting controversy, I have to say, this looks like a pretty dangerous situation. It is hard to tell the distance to the moose, but looks too close to me, especially sitting down. Moose are dangerous and there are reportedly more injuries from moose than bears each year. If the moose decided you were too close, you wouldn't have a chance.

Having said that, I was walking through the forest in Alaska one time and as I came around a tree, there was a very large male moose laying down in the shade. I startled him at a distance of about 6 feet. He startled me. He jumped up, and I started walking backwards. He was 6-foot tall at the shoulders. Fortunately he didn't charge and once I got behind a nearby tree, he posed for me:

But I would not sit down in the open like you did Fabs. Maybe crouch but in a position where I could move fast if he started to move my way.

I have always said it. Your trip is never the same without a guide! ha ha ha.

Looks like the moose is not going anywhere. Good boy.

Roger the Mooise Moose behaved perfectly but there was an incident .... a photographer decided a better angle was in order so he used a moose call which set him off in a chase ... I was not there at the time but must have been a sight

... btw we had to be more careful with the cows and they did scattered people around a couple of times.

    Roger,

Moosie Moose was a very gentle giant, ready to pose and very tolerant of people. He chooses to come to the camping grounds every year it seems, and generally behaves if unprovoked. He gives everyone a head angle and minds his business.

What an amazing experience. I would have pooped my pants probably especially after having read Roger's post. WOW!

This is from the Yellowstone National Park website. ..... http://www.nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/viewanim.htm
Check out the little piece of advice in bold print. This even includes photographers!

BTW, Just because the animal poses all cute and pretty like, does not make them tame. Moose are extremely unpredictable creatures. They can, and will do major damage, usually to unsuspecting tourists. Please be more careful next time. I wouldn't want to see someone get hurt.

    Robert
