Default still struggling to resize a photo for viewing

I have done as instructed in Save For Web. When the desired parameters of the image are met (and displayed on the right side of the Display for Web site), I click ok, BUT the resulting image is NOT held to the desired parameters and I continue to only have the original image size saved. What do I do tin order for Save for Web save the image with the new proportions which are displayed on the right side of Save for Web, but continue not to be saved when ok is clicked.

I purchased a manual called Photoshiop Elements 5, The Missing Manual and have followed all of their instructions on resizing, yet the newcorrect, newly sized image is not saved.

    Totally frustrated.

hi Ginny I typed up my full workflow for CS3 a while ago., point form, and done very poorly, but it might help you.

There are many different ways to fry an egg, but this is a good method imo.

So that give you a file for print., now you need one for web use
click on Image, then Image size
highlight/change the resolution to 72 dpi
make sure all the boxes below are checked
in the bottom drop down menu, click Bicubic Sharper
then, at the top, if your image is Horizontal, highlight and change the number in the width to 800 or 900 as you wish... I usually use 900 wide for horizontal crops, and 650 high for vertical crops.
click ok, then click view, and click Actual Pixels
    this is your websized image
then click on File, Save As, and change the file name (add web) and save
then, in Jpeg options, move the slider from 12 to the left, until you see the kb size you like., I usually try to keep mine between 125 and 175 kb.
before you save it, you can can click image, add canvas, and add some coloured canvas to the border if you like.
then click the text menu at the bottom, and add your sig... I use 15pt for my text size, but do as you wish., after you have done your text, you need to click Layer, go down to the bottom, and click Flatten Image.

Could you please outline your resizing workflow exactly as you do it? That might help us to help you. We'll get this sorted out! :)

For now ginny maybe do as Raymond suggested.

*Resize in image size to 72 ppi and 1024 0r 800 max on a side for this sites maximum.
    *Convert to 8 bit,
*flatten(jpgs. have to be flattened--could that be your problem?),
    *convert to srgb,
*"save as" jpg--in new box that pops up, on the right, watch as you slide the slider to give the biggest no. without going over the 200 kb limit of this site. hit save button.
*sharpen in unsharp 500, .2, 0 or other of your choice, save again(not "save as" this time)although you could, but it's not necessary.

Do this for now and figure out the save for web thing later. Personally I don't use it.

Hi Ginny, I've moved your thread out of Avian and into "Digital Workflow". This way you will be able to post a new thread in Avian now instead of waiting for tomorrow.

P.S. PM sent to you in case you didn't see this...

Just FYI, there's another way you can post images and not worry about limits set by the forum. You can use a free hosting service such as Photobucket. Open a free account and upload an image that you want to post on the forum. After it uploads, right click on the "Direct" link and copy that:

When you create your post on this forum, click the image link ... ... above the text window and paste the Direct link into the little window that opens. That will make your image appear in your post.

This doesn't address your resizing problem, but it gets you around the hassle of size restrictions on the forum's servers.

Can you take a partial screen shot of this step and post it? The screen shot would be small so you wouldn't have to resize it. You just need to capture the bottom right corner of the Save for Web dialog box, like this:

I want to thank all of you who have so kindly offered suggestionsto finally enable me to get an image on the forum. I am not sure what I did "right" this morning, but the forum finally accepted one of my images. It remains to be seen if I can acccomplish this feat yet another time, but more than anything, I am appreciative of all of the helpful/patient/kind folks here. I feel l as if I am in nursery school, and am admittedly embarrassed, but deeply appreciative and blessed by your efforts to enable me to succeed...at least once anyway!

I have recommended Box Top ProJPEG software in the past and have been using it for years. It really does an outstanding job for creating JPEG's. The compression used is superior to all others I have tried.

    Check it out! http://www.boxtopsoft.com/projpeg.html

Opps, well glad I have it, and I hope it becomes freeware down the road FOR THOSE THAT DO NOT.
