I know this perch is a bit overpowering for this bird. I was doing a set up for Flicker(which I had no luck with) but the Phoebe seemed to like it , so why not.

I like the perch and the pose. The whites seem slightly hot and there appears to be some halo on my monitor. Great image however.

I really like the image design and the sharpness. The whites look fine from here, perfect in fact on this calibrated monitor with the calibration strip looking perfect. Ben, do you know how to check the calibration strip? There seems to be a cyan cast to the sky.

Joe, are you working from your car or from a blind when you try this?

Hi Artie. I have a NEC that is hardware calibrated using Spectraview and a Monaco puck. The strip looks fine. There are a couple problems with calibration however. One, you have a zillion choices for brightness. I use 85CD/MM^2 for prints, and 110 for web browsing, and for making images to post here. I may be a bit bright for some people. There is no standard for brigtness I am aware of. When I used 85, it forced me to brighten my images and they were too bright for web. I suspect if I went to 90 on brightness, this image would be ok. But I am pretty sure the halo would still be there.

The other is my monitor is wide gamut, and I normally use Prophoto. But when I convert to sRGB, I often lose colors, like red and yellow that are fine at full gamut, or for that matter in prints. I usually need to convert to sRGB then do another round of adjustments.

Hey Ben, You seem to be far more knowledgeable than me about the technical stuff. I know that there are brightness problems when comparing MACs and PCs but.... If the brightness is adjusted so that the calibration strip looks fine would that not deal with the brightness issues here?

I just have some high end hardware that I am trying to learn, especially what brightness setting to use for web (sometimes more is less).

The last two whites in the cal strip are very easy to separate as are the two darkest blacks. My problem with the image was the band of white under the head just seems to lack texture. I just switched to 85 brightness and got some more texture, but still some of that band is just all the same. I have poor vision, so maybe that's it. Or maybe there is no texture there to see.

I still see the halo, so I have to assume there must be one, hard to believe my monitor would add a halo, but easy to believe it could fail to see one.

Hey Ben, I have news for you: my vision is worse than yours, my glasses are often dirty, and while I have a great eye for composition and form and color I have a very poor eye for fine detail.... I just took another look at the Phoebe's neck and I can see what looks like feather detail.

Joe, I like the perch and the pose and thin they come together for an interesting look. I also like the soft colored BG. Nicely done.

I recalibrated, I can see some feather detail. I take my glasses off to shoot, I need a -3 diopter on my 1DS-mk3 and then still use up most of the remaining adjustment. But with my glasses off, I can't get too far from the camera or I won't find it :).

Joe, I quite like the perch, and really like the pose. Good exposure, and I would maybe tone down the sky a tad.
