Unfortunately, a lot of my images were taken in overcast conditions during my recent trip to the Kruger National Park. I dont have many images of raptors, so I will take anything, even in a busy BG, and low light.

    Stuart:
An impressive set of feet on this fellow.

Not the easiest conditions for you. Busy BG, steep angle a challenge. Was fill flash an option here? Is flash allowed in Kruger?

From your exposure numbers, it must have been fairly heavy overcast.

I might consider cropping down a bit from the top, to reduce as much of the bright/busy background as possible without crowding the bird.

I tried some selectively lightening of the bird, but the noise started to intrude.

I wouldn't pass it up either. I think the crop would help. Good job under tough conditions.

You did well in tough conditions. The head actually looks noisier than the rest of the bird....

Like it as presented Bro. Nothing wrong with showing its typical habitat and I can easily make out the bird from the trees hence why I am fine with the presentation. When you get one with the perfect BG and perch that you didn't set up then you can be smiles all around. Until then this is more than sufficient IMHO. :)

As per Randy, are flashes not allowed?

    Artie:

When I was tinkering with the image, the head did seem to be noisier, I think it may have been selectively lightened to bring up the eyes? Or, perhaps selectively sharpened with similar consequences re: noise.

    Stuart, can you enlighten us?

Agree with Randy as well, exposure has been well handled.

Super bird, pity about the light. I think this one was a bit underexposed even at +1 Stu/ and the extraction of detail is showing? Ditto Randy on cropping a bit off the top.
