    A neat bird from the seabird aviary at the Bronx Zoo.
    Nikon D2x, 70-300mm VR zoom with flash.

    Hi Art!

    For a dark bird, I like the feather detail ... the flash helped .. and also added a nice catch light to the eye. But it also made the rock perch very bright & overpowering. I don't think the background, and the black merge helped you ... I realize it is a difficult spot ... if you moved to the right, probably get more poo!

    I really like this as is, but might be tempted to try a couple things.

    Maybe change the tone of the BG to keep it from blending so much with the head, and burn the rock perch a bit to tone it down. At about the 2 O'Clock position from the tip of the bill, there looks to be a smudge or dust bunny.

    The bird looks really nice and good use of flash. Nice composition and pose as well. I'm with the others about the BG. Maybe try Jim's suggestion to tone it down.

    I'd like to see the flash on bird toned down a bit too.
