NIce BIF, I assume this was a crop. Hard to get much with a 400 unless they route your way, I know owning a Canon 400MM myself. How does Histogram look, is anything clipped in the neck area? Maybe more head room. On balance, well done. BIF are challenging and a white Egret to boot, nice action shot - what was the time of day?
I Iike the deep blue bg and the pose!
Good sharpness and wing positions. As posted there is some clipping on the whites, and I do wish for a better HA. Slightly open bill is a nice bonus. I wouldn't mind seeing the egret a little higher in the frame.
about 930 am fair histogram cropped shot at 240 mm
dan appreciate your reply.could you comment further on the clipping.i assume you mean white exposure.and ha stands for what?
amazing pose and BG
TFS
What % of the image was cropped? Or what % of the image remains?
This can be estimated or calculate by image size info, no big deal. My point was, it looks like a large crop and thus small details in the frame (e.g., eye, texture in neck area). Some areas do look a tad hot. By fair histogram, I assume you were a little warm on the right? This is a nice shot, just asking and often BIF are what you can get!

Hi Stuart,
Yes, the whites being clipped means that if you look at the histogram there is some data jammed up on and touching the right edge. Usually this means the detail in those areas are burned, and lost. During RAW conversion you may be able to bring some detail back if the clipping is not too strong.
HA stands for head angle. Thought you were aware of this often used abbreviation:) Here is a list of the acronyms most often used on BPN:
