Captured this swallow-tailed bee-eater in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier National Park.

My first sighting of this lovely bird - the takeoff shots could have gone better :o
Removed some twigs at the bottom left of the screen.

    Techs:
    Canon 40D with 100-400mm L IS USM @ 400mm
    f5.6 @ 1/2500 SS @ ISO-400
    Exp +0.3
Shutter priority for the expected takeoff :)

Nice comp, BG, perch, species and colors. IMO a bit more sharpening would help and fill flash would've helped.
    Congratulations!

Overall very pretty. Perfect pose and lovely BG. Nice perch too. I wouldn't mind trimming off some canvas at left, and I would eliminate the yellowish spots at bottom (and the white spot on the perch). As posted another round of sharpening would be great.

Hey Mate, love the exposure on the BE, and you have brought out the greens nicely. Comp wise, I would maybe move him a tad left in the frame, and crop off from the LHS and top. Still need a decent shot of one of these guys too.

thanks so much for the kind comments everyone...I was off to a gig yesterday 3 hours away from my home so I couldn't respond.

here is a repost with the bright patches in the BG spot-healed and more sharpening added...

The repost looks a lot better Morkel. I would like to see some cropped off the top and left?
