This is pretty much amazing to me. It looks like an illustration. I would love to see it at a resolution that does justice to the details.

My only "nit" is the dot on the tip of the wingtip - it really draws my attention away from the rest of this marvelous image.

Were you in Japan for bird photography?

A superb image Robert!! Love the arch of the wings, good detail, and lighting. Feel that a little more canvas top and bottom would improve composition for me. But great effort!

Didnt even notice the dot, you mean the feather? Thanks for the comments either way.

Yes 4200 px its very nice, even at 1400 px its really full of detail.

Yes, 3rd time there, 1st in Hokkaido and 1st time for bird photography. It was an recon to lead a workshop there in 2009. Some of the shooting, esp for flight, was some of my best experiences ever anywhere.

    Thanks again,

    Robert

Hi John, I hear you, I was thinking the same thing but then I decided not too so I left it as shot. The 200-400 was great for framing so much so I didnt shoot much with my 600 IS.
Thanks for the comments and advice.

Lovely light and pose - really like to texture on those wing coverts. The dot on the wing tip doesn't bother me as I am seeing an upturned primary tip from the load of banking - I am sure at higher res this would be clearer. Would love to see this as an A2 print

Ah, I see what's going on there. Yes, the upturned feather. Even knowing what's going on it really draws my eye. An IPT in Japan, eh. Very interesting. Been there a few times myself, but never with a camera. ;)

Love the geometric made by the banking eagle. As has been said, a more detailed version would be a wow.

Wonderful banking pose and I'm sure the details must look great. It might work as vertical crop, too. I find there is too much space on the left.

Great composition, Robert, and killer wing position. That 200-400VR is treating you right ;)
