Tired of this never ending summer we are having so I decided to to start this afternoon on the 1,000 files of Snowy's I never got around to.

MKIII, EF500, 1/1250, f/8, ISO 400, HH, Full frame except cropped about 10% from the left. Eyes have been desaturated. Called in with bait.

Love everything about this--sharpness, EXP, wing position except for the look of the snow..... Soft pure white would have been nice. You say that this bird was "called in with bait." What did you do, squeeze the mouse till it "eeked"?

Fantastic image Mike. The snow really helped get some light under her. A Snowy Owl in snow is one thing I strive for. Thus far, all my images of them are with no snow and I fight with shadows on the underneath side in flight.

Called in with bait, eh...I like Arts question about that statement:D.

Lovely image Mike. The bird's really focused on his target. I think that I recognise that snow-covered corn field.

Fantastic image... I think a soft blanket of snow underneath would be nice as Arite mentioned, but this is definitely killer as is! Hope to see more of the other 999 images. ;-)

    Funnt that. Eeking mouse. :D

Love the pose here Mike and thanks for revealing the use of bait. I am sure most photogs would deduce that either way. All I can say is WOW! :) Thanks for sharing.

Hi Mike, I couldnt leave an image like this tucked away for a rainy day - It would have been one of the first to have been processed. Great flying angle, and overall, good exposure on both the snowy, and the BG. Those eyes just pop so well from the white plumage.

Fabulous shot Mike. Must be something to have a few spare shots to while away the time. You have nailed this good. WD!
