Hi Chris, great sighting, and its always great to see the night animals too. I like the alert pose, together with the slight hint of his tongue. The flash seems to have affected the pupils, and Im not sure by darkening them would help. Still, well captured.

you know I like this Chris! love the low angle and the flashwork looks good to me - I have a similar shot of one and my flash dilated the pupils so much I had to do clonework to make them look better.

which camp in Kruger was this? we got an inquisitive one in Tamboti. I like the shallow DOF - is that because of the flash because the 100-400 doesn't normally have that shallow DOF at short focal lengths?

I actually read the other day that the small spotted genet is actually part of the mongoose family, despite its feline appearance and the 'cat' in the name...

A fine image of a not often seen subject. Great work on the low angle....

Cool shot! Those eyes are incredible. Really like how the head is tack sharp yet the body is out of focus.

Love the low angle and the great timing. Superb detail and eye contact where it counts.

Neat looking animal. I like how the OOF tail and body lead the eye to the nicely detailed face. I think some darkening of the pupils would work quite well.

Thanks for all the comments and advice.
Stu thanks I have darken the pupils. does it looks better this way ?
Morkel I normally get shallow DOF with or with out the flash.
I made this shot at Berg & Dal camp site.

    Chris,

I must confess to never having seen a good picture of a Genet taken at night, you have rectified this totally. I like it a lot!

The image is great and the repost eliminates the "red eye" very well, he DOF does not bother me at all, as the key elements of the image are sharp enough for me.

    Morkel,

You are correct the Genet is member of the Mongoose family it is not a cat!

Chris, this is great and the repost with the darker pupils is a winner. Also well done on getting the tongue sticking out. Did you lie flat and waited for it to approach?
