    Painted bunting

    Texas Hill Country

    D2x's, 600, ISO 250, f7, 1/100, -0.3EV.

This was taken during one of my Texas workshops under very dark skies.
I believe it rained 20 minutes after this shot was taken.

Some may want to clone out the LR leaves and berry.
I'm trying not to get my work to look too clinical so I left it in.
I'm always open to your thoughts.

    Alan:

Another lovely image. Right on the bleeding edge of sharpness for my tastes, but very nice.
I like the complimentary colors of the berries, shape of leaves, BG.

To some extent, the leaves in the RLC balance the composition. Always a bit of a challenge when the leaves are cut off. I do think the single berry showing down there helps a lot.

    Cheers
    Randy

Alan just lovely!! The BG and the perch make this for me. The light I think actually helped you. I like it as presented.

I like the perch, soft light, sharpness and BG. I'm undecided about the leaf and branch in the lower right.

Looks like a wonderful postcard. Very nice. I'd be tempted to clone the berry and branch from the very bottom of the LRC.

The killer bird and the complementary berries and leaves plus the perfect subject orientation put this on a par with the rest of your great songbird images. And a sweet, sweet BKGR. If you twisted my arm I might say that the lower lighter section of the BKGR bugs me a bit.

Killer shot Alan. Love the BG, like the enviroment you left in too. If I were being very picky, it looks like the reds are clipped a bit, very easy to do on this bird.

Wonderful capture Alan. Everything works for me, BG, perch and especially the bird.

Killer bird and BG. Love the light and perch. I am undecided about the leaf on the LRC. I would crop a bit on top.

I like the setting Alan, with lovely colours captured on the bunting. Another undecided vote for the leaves LLC.

Stunning image Alan - such a colorful bird. Composition and BG bring out the colors even better. LR leaves seem to balance the image. Lovely shot indeed.

Superb image and subject too. The colour looks very natural (hard bird to get the colours right I imagine).
If it was mine I would try to tone down the BG selectively to bring out the greens but that might not sit well with you (I tend to like darker images.) Cheers, Paul Randall

P.S. Don't mind the lower right inclusion. Seems to anchor the composition.
Sometimes it is good to have something in the corners so the viewer's eye is drawn first to the eye then down the body, down the perch and out the corner of the composition.

Doesn't get much better than this. Great pose, colors, bg, perch, and detail. I understand your attempt to not look too clinical or sterile, but I don't think the LRC helps in this case. I'd crop most of it from the bottom.
