I adjusted color temp a tad to soften bg colors from those of the bird.

Not sure of species, could use some help here.

Hi. Royal tern, non-breeding plumage. Composition is good, view from the rear alright, but IMO a more pronounced backward glace would have been better. A catchlight would have helped alot. The 1/4000 sec shutter speed is overkill, especially since the bird is not moving. I'd go ahead and drop the ISO. Depth of field is spot on. Good job. regards~Bill

Hi Jeff, Really nice shot. I like the pose and contrasting angles of bill, tail and slope of sand, which I had first thought was snow!!. Nice and sharp. I am not sure if there is a bit of colour cast or not, but it does appear that way to me. I also like hte idea of a catch light. Well done, Dave

Does have a color cast Jeff, easy to remove !!! Do like the pose and a catchlight would have been helpful, does lighten up the eye !!!

Hi Jeff - like the pose and the composition - colour cast mentioned, catchlight is a necessity here I think.
Heres a link to how to add if you have not already seen ..http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...ad.php?t=39426

    Keep em coming :)

Good call on the shutter speed/ISO could have used 200, I adjusted color balance to separate bird from sand via Kelvin adjustments, thanks for the feedback.

I am wondering what a catchlight will do to the image, I might repost and see if it make a difference, thanks.

    Hi Jeff,
Agree about the need for a catchlight but a beautiful shot anyway. I particularly like the good use of depth of field.
    Best,
    Nicki

I can add a catchlight in the next picture - thanks for the feedback.
