Not an uncommon sight around here but the posture of the bird while searching for just the right seed pod was enticing.

    Donald:

A big welcome to BPN. I always enjoy the chickadees, lots of personality, and very brave here in Michigan.

Good pose, gives a sense of more action. Nice exposure. The focus is a bit soft on the bird, I think you may have been focused just anterior to him as some of the blossoms look sharper. It certainly might be possible to do some selective sharpening to help here.

There is a modest amount of background noise creeping into the darker areas.

I would consider burning in the stem that runs right behind his head, bit distracting.

Thanks for sharing, look forward to more.

    Donald:

A had a minute and cloned out the stem behind his head. You can do a much better job on the raw file, but I do think it gets the idea across, and to me, it helps the image. I also did a small amount of selective sharpening of the head.

I did try just burning it in, but wasn't happy with the look. Again, might do better on raw file.

Great comments and suggestions from Randy. These little birds are extremely difficult to photograph in natural light, I usually opt for a bit of fill flash to counter the harsh shadows when photographing them in direct light.
